About the Redhead Cichlid
The Synspilum cichlid (Vieja synspila), also known as the Redhead Cichlid or Quetzal Cichlid, is a popular freshwater fish known for its vibrant colors and large size. Native to Central America, they are found in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala, inhabiting slow-moving or stagnant waters like rivers, lakes, and lagoons. These fish are omnivorous, and while primarily herbivores, they will also consume insects and small fish.

Diet: Herbivorous; High-quality cichlid pellets, Spirulina Flakes, blanched vegetables (spinach, zucchini). Supplement with frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms.
Compatible with: Potentially Central American cichlids, Common Pleco or kept in a species-only tank
