About the Neon Tetra

Neon Tetras are small, vibrant freshwater fish, popular in the aquarium hobby due to their bright colors and peaceful nature. They are characterized by a bright blue iridescent stripe running horizontally along their body, and a red stripe below it, both extending from the middle of the body to the tail. They can often be mistaken for Cardinal Tetras, due to their similar appearance, although Carinal Tetras have a greater redness to their lower body. These fish are relatively small, typically reaching about 1.5 to 2 inches in length. These fish favor environments with plenty of plant cover and leaf litter.

Minimum Tank Size: 10 Gallons for 6 individuals; at least 20 Gallons for 10+ fish

Water Temperature: 72-80 °F

Water pH: 6.0-7.5

Social Group: 6-10+ individuals

Diet: Omnivore; will readily consume a wide variety of commercial flakes/pellets, frozen brine shrimp/bloodworms/daphnia, live baby brine shrimp or daphnia

Compatible with: Bristlenose Plecos, Catfish (Corydoradinae), Amano Shrimp, Harlequin Rasboras, Chili Rasboras, Kuhli Loaches, Apistogramma sp., Bettas, Gourami
