About the Frontosa

Frontosa cichlids, scientifically known as Cyphotilapia frontosa, are a popular and striking species of freshwater fish, notable for their large size and unique appearance. They are characterized by a nuchal hump on their head, which becomes more prominent as they mature, especially in males. They also have distinctive vertical black or dark blue bars on a white or blue body. These cichlids are relatively peaceful for their size and are found in Lake Tanganyika, Africa.

Water Temperature: 73-81 °F

Water pH: 8.0-9.0

Social Group: Gregarious, 5-10+ individuals

Diet: Omnivorous; Spirulina Flakes, frozen brine shrimp/bloodworms, peas, blanched vegetables (spinach, zucchini), chopped shrimp/prawns.

Compatible with: Peacock cichlids, starry night cichlid, yellow lab cichlid
