About the Black Venezuelan Cory

The Black Venezuelan Cory Catfish is a dark-colored variant with a striking black body and dark reddish-maroon fins. This variation of cory used to go by Corydoras schultzei, however it is indeed a taxonomic synonym of Corydoras aeneus, which is a synonym of Osteogaster aenea. It is a peaceful, schooling fish that thrives in groups and is a popular choice for community tanks. Despite its name, it originates from Peru, not Venezuela, and was developed in Germany in the 1990s.

Minimum Tank Size: 20 Gallons

Water Temperature: 73-84 °F

Water pH: 6.5-8.0

Social Group: At least 6 fish; these catfish are more comfortable in social groups

Diet: Omnivorous; Commercial Fish Food, Frozen Brine Shrimp/Bloodworms, Bottom Feeder Pellets, Detritus, Live Blackworms

Compatible with: Bettas, Gourami, Angelfish, Discus, Guppies, Shrimp, Mollies, Platies, etc. This fish should not be placed with species that can consume them or super aggressive species.
