About the Auratus Cichlid
The Auratus Cichlid, scientifically known as Melanochromis auratus, is a freshwater fish native to Lake Malawi in Africa. It's known for its vibrant colors and aggressive temperament. Juveniles and females display a golden yellow base with black horizontal stripes, while dominant males transition to a dark brown or black body with light blue or yellow stripes. These fish require a large tank and careful consideration of tankmates due to their territorial nature.

Minimum Tank Size: 55+ Gallons. The larger the better
Water Temperature: 75-82 °F
Water pH: 7.6-8.8
Social Group: Keep 4-5 females per male.
Diet: Herbivorous; Spirulina Flakes, Blanched Vegetables, Algae. Supplement with Frozen Brine Shrimp/Bloodworms
Compatible with: Only Lake Malawi Cichlids of similar temperament and are not identical in patterning.
