About the Silver Dollar
The Silver dollar (Metynnis hypsauchen) is known for their flat, circular shape and silvery sheen, are popular freshwater aquarium fish. They are generally peaceful but can be semi-aggressive due to their opportunistic nature, potentially nipping at smaller tank mates. They are omnivorous, primarily eating plant matter but also readily consuming fish food and some meaty treats. Several varieties exist, including the common silver dollar, red hook silver dollar, and spotted silver dollar.

Water Temperature: 75-82 °F
Water pH: 6.0-7.0
Social Group: 5+ fish in a large enough aquarium
Diet: Omnivorous; Dried Spirulina Flakes, Commercial Flakes/Pellets with higher protein, frozen brine shrimp/bloodworms, blanched vegetables (spinach, zucchini). Diet should be mostly plant and vegetable matter.
Compatible with: Larger Plecos, Severums, Congo Tetras, Blue Acara, Oscar (adult silver dollars)
