Calico Ryukin goldfish are a captivating fancy goldfish variety known for their high, curved backs, egg-shaped bodies, and vibrant, mottled coloration. They are a Japanese breed, developed from the fantail goldfish, and are characterized by their pronounced hump behind the head, curved spine, and flowing fins. The "calico" in their name refers to their unique, multi-colored patterns, which typically include shades of red, orange, white, and black. 

Goldfish are known to be social fish and produce a lot of waste. Effective filtration and tank set up are required to keep goldfish with optimal welfare.

Temperament: Peaceful

Minimum Tank Size: 40 Gallons for 2x Goldfish and effective filtration. Add 10-15 gallons of water for each additional fish.

Water Temperature: 64-78 °F

Water pH: 6.0-8.0

Social Group: 2+ Individuals

Diet: Omnivorous; Commercial Flakes & Pellets suited for goldfish, algae, algae wafers, detritus, Frozen Brine Shrimp/Bloodworms

Compatible with: Due to the bio load of goldfish, they are often kept in species-only aquariums. However, with a large enough tank footprint, goldfish may be kept with platies, dojo loaches, and bristlenose plecos
