About the Rostratus Cichlid

The Rostratus Cichlid, scientifically known as Fossorochromis rostratus, is a species of cichlid fish native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. It's a relatively large, sexually dimorphic species, with males typically reaching 12 inches (30 cm) and females slightly smaller. Males are known for their vibrant blue and green iridescent coloration with black markings, while females are generally pale yellow-brown with a checkerboard pattern. Rockwork should be restricted to the edges of the aquarium due to this cichlid's speed and agility.

Temperament: Peaceful/Semi-Aggressive

Minimum Tank Size: 75 Gallons

Water Temperature: 77-84 °F

Water pH: 7.5-8.8

Social Group: 2-3 females per male. Very large tanks are required for more than one male.

Diet: Should be fed live and frozen foods predominantly such as artemia, bloodworms, and mysis.

Compatible with: Frontosa, Rift Lake Synodontis sp.
