About the Malawi Eye-Biter
The Rock-Dwelling Mbuna Cichlid—Compressiceps East African Cichlid (now known as the Malawi Eyebiter, Dimidiochromis compressiceps) is a deep-bodied, laterally compressed cichlid with a large mouth, which can grow up to 10 inches long. It is native to Lake Malawi, features a whitish-silver body with a dark horizontal stripe, and males develop vibrant metallic blue, red, and orange fins when sexually mature. Iit requires a large, spacious tank with rocky structures, caves, and sand to mimic its natural habitat.

Minimum Tank Size: 75 Gallons
Water Temperature: 73-82 °F
Water pH: 7.5-8.8
Social Group: solitary or 3-4 females per male fish
Diet: Carnivorous; will accept high protein commercial pellets but should receive prawns, mussels, tilapia, cockles
Compatible with: Large African Cichlids that cannot fit in their mouth and can occupy different tank water levels.
