About the Common Pleco

The common pleco (Hypostomus plecostomus) is a popular freshwater fish known for its armored body, sucker-like mouth, and algae-eating habits. These South American native fish are popular in the aquarium hobby but can grow to be quite large (up to 24 inches) and require a large tank to thrive.

Temperament: Peaceful

Minimum Tank Size: 125 Gallons

Water Temperature: 68-86 °F

Water pH: 6.5-8.0

Social Group: Solitary unless you have a 200+ Gallon aquarium

Diet: Omnivorous; Biofilm, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach), good quality commercial sinking pellets/wafers, algae

Compatible with: Green Terror, Oscar, Colombian Tetra, Silver Dollars, Emperor Tetras, Severums.
