About the Black Skirt Tetra
The Black Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) is a popular freshwater aquarium fish from the Characidae family and originates from South America. These fish have also been artificially selected in captivity to produce a lineage of longer finned specimens; known as the hi-fin or long finned Black Skirt Tetra.
Adult tetras tend to reach about 2-2.5 inches and are a generally peaceful species. In larger schools, conspecific aggression is lowered. Fin nipping may occur with this species towards other skirt tetras and other species within a community tank if there is not enough plant cover or the social group size is too small.
