About the Elongatus Cichlid

The Assorted Elongatus Cichlid (Pseudotropheus elongatus), also known as the Elongate Mbuna or Elongatus Cichlid, is from Lake Malawi, Africa. These fish are popular in the aquarium trade due to their vibrant colors, elongated body shape, and active behavior. To keep this species, its tank requires large rock piles, caves, and other hardscape to provide ample hiding places.

Husbandry & Care

Temperament: Aggressive

Minimum Tank Size: 55 Gallons; 75+ Gallons preferred

Water Temperature: 75-82 °F

Water pH: 7.5-8.8

Social Group: Dense stocking to minimize aggression with copious rocks, caves, and hardscape. Keep one male to several female fish.

Diet: Herbivorous; Spirulina Flakes, Blanched Vegetables, Nori. Supplement with live or frozen brine shrimp.

Compatible with: Only aggressive Mbuna that do not have identical features or patterning.
