About the Amazon Leaf Fish

Amazon Leaf Fish (Monocirrhus polyacanthus) are known for their exceptional camouflage abilities, resembling dead leaves to ambush prey. They are found in freshwater habitats like the Amazon River basin and slow-moving rivers and creeks, often among submerged vegetation. These fish are typically brown, gray, or mottled, with a flattened body shape and a filament on the lower jaw that enhances their leaf-like appearance. They are ambush predators with a large, extendable mouth for quickly capturing prey like small fish and insects. These fish thrive in planted aquariums with tall, broad plants such as Amazon Swords and Jungle Val.
